KATHMANDU, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- KP Sharma Oli has been elected as the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist and Leninist) (CPN-UML) through the 11th general convention that concluded on Thursday.
Oli defeated Ishwar Pokharel, the party's former senior vice-chairman, announced Bijay Subba, chair of the party's election commission. This is the third time Oli has become the chairman of the party.
The general convention of the second largest party in the dissolved House of Representatives was held about three months after Oli stepped down as prime minister on Sept. 9 over deadly protests in Kathmandu and other parts of the country. Enditem
