Beijing has officially surpassed 200 national registrations for generative artificial intelligence models, maintaining its position as China's leader in both regulatory filings and industrial application scale, according to the Beijing Municipal Cyberspace Administration.
The latest batch of approvals brings Beijing's share to more than 30% of all models registered nationwide. When combined with 147 officially registered AI product applications, the city accounts for 35% of the national total in both categories.
The city's top AI models have attracted 1.44 billion registered users. Industry leaders based in the capital, including Douyin, Zhipu AI and Moonshot AI, currently serve more than 30,000 institutions and handle an average of 746 million daily requests.
City officials said the figures reinforce Beijing's status as the nation's "AI capital" and a benchmark for digital economic development.
The city's portfolio includes 164 text-based models and 37 multi-modal models. Of these, 92 were independently developed, while 109 models were fine-tuned from existing bases such as Qwen chat, DeepSeek and ChatGLM.
The registrations are split between 121 general-purpose models and 80 industry-specific tools targeting sectors including government, education, culture, tourism and e-commerce.
The Beijing Municipal Cyberspace Administration is expanding its oversight and support infrastructure for large AI models, launching its first dedicated "ecosystem service stations" in Haidian and Mentougou districts. The administration has also conducted 19 policy and registration workshops, reaching more than 1,100 enterprises and 11,000 participants.
